What is palliative care?

When someone you love is living with a serious, long-term illness (cancer, heart failure, stroke, multiple sclerosis, or another condition) palliative care offers an extra layer of support, right alongside the treatment they're already receiving.

Our goal is simple and deeply personal: to ease pain, manage difficult symptoms, and help your loved one experience the best possible quality of life, every single day.

Palliative care doesn't ask your family to give anything up. Your loved one can continue with their current medical treatments, and we work hand-in-hand with their existing doctors to support that care. If there ever comes a time when the medical team feels those treatments are no longer helping, we will be there to gently and thoughtfully guide your family through the transition to hospice care.

How is palliative care different from hospice?

It's common for families to feel uncertain about the difference — both services bring together a team of caring experts focused on comfort. The key distinction lies in treatment:

Palliative Care allows your loved one to continue active treatments aimed at fighting or curing their illness, such as chemotherapy, radiation, dialysis, or surgery, while our team works alongside that care to keep them comfortable.

Hospice Care shifts the focus fully toward comfort, peace, and quality of life once treatments aimed at curing the illness have come to an end.

Who qualifies?

Anyone facing a serious illness qualifies for palliative care, starting the very day they receive their diagnosis.

Is it covered?

Yes. Most patients receive full coverage through Medicare's palliative benefits, which cover every aspect of our care.

Other ways to pay:

We also accept Medicaid, private insurance, HMOs, and private pay. Crown Palliative Care works within all of these options to make sure care remains accessible to your family.

When should we start?

As soon as possible. Many families wait until an illness becomes more severe before reaching out — but the earlier you connect with us, the more comfort we can offer your loved one, and the more peace of mind we can offer you.

How do we begin?

Taking the first step is simple: reach out to us.

A referral can come from you, your loved one, a family member, a physician, or a hospital social worker. If you contact us directly, our team will take care of the paperwork and coordinate approval with your doctor — so you can focus on your family, not the logistics.

Where we provide care:

We bring our services directly to wherever your loved one calls home — a private residence, an independent or assisted living community (RCFE), or a skilled nursing facility.

Who we serve:

We are honored to care for everyone in need, regardless of race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, or disability.

When we can start:

Services can begin immediately.
